The project is located on the core area of Zibo city in Shandongprovince. It is an old factory site which has the memory of newChinese history. The factory used to be the military camp of theJapanese invader. During a decade after liberation, the factoryreconstructed and expended as Shandong Xinhua Machinery FactoryCo., Ltd. and invented the China's first glass lining reflecting tank. Afterhalf a century, the factory has been retired. With the urban renewalprocess, the localgovernment is willing to refurbish the factory basedon the industrial heritage conservation plans, aiming to creating a newcommercial landmark with culture and creativity.The design strategies of ‘inheritance, integration and innovation’ hasbeen decided after several timessurveys and researches. In terms ofurban design, the original urban fabric is maintained. New circulationsfor car and pedestrian and open green space for outdoor activities areredesigned in order to create a safe and vibrant place. In terms of thearchitectural design, the most valuable factory buildings are conservedand redesigned by new contemporary design approaches afterstructure testing. Eventually, the total floor area of the conservedbuilding is about 10370 sqms which are regrouped into 3 functionalzone which are culture streets, industry parks, and fashion retails.
