SHENYANG MIXC Container Space Design

The sudden outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic has plunged the city into panic and pain, whose negative spillovers still shroud the city even with the gradual restoration of basic order. The project was designed to awaken the vibrancy of the city and the vitality of life with color. Located in the Mixc, Shenyang, this space work was jointly designed by the Mixc and Pantone Color Institute.

Based on the second-hand container, the designer cushions the industrial feelings of containers via the surrounding open space and soul-soothing colors. In terms of the first-floor set-up, popular colors issued by PANTONE every year were displayed on the entire wall, and the drawers on the wall can be storage boxes for city dwellers to exchange gifts, through which the designer hopes to convey the warmth between people and heal the city’s wounds. The container on the second floor is painted into different color sections, making it an ideal venue for people to take photos to be put on social media or space where people enjoy a moment of tranquility or respite away from the hustle and bustle of urban life. The second floor and the first floor are linked by a huge slide, whose entrance takes the form of a washing machine, enhancing user experience while lending a touch of creativity and enjoyment.

The designer believes that color is always the common aesthetic language of mankind, and hopes that the innovative integration of the soul-healing visual language and the interesting spatial language will call for the recovery of urban colors and emotions.
